When Oak Lawn Community High School junior Jack McGlynn discovered arm soreness in his elbow, his season on the mound was in jeopardy. However, as the leader of the Spartans, he found a way to still contribute to the team and make a difference with his bat and glove.
Switching back and forth between playing first base and serving as the team’s designated hitter, McGlynn managed to lead Oak Lawn to big wins over South Suburban Conference Red rivals Richards, Shepard and Reavis. And now the Spartans are in contention for a conference championship with the season winding down.
“Jack has been our leader for the entire season,” said head coach Bill Gerny. “He has been explosive on the basepaths, racking up double-digit stolen bases. Jack has overcome injuries to be successful as a leader and a hitter while leading the Spartans.”
McGlynn leads the team in RBIs while hitting over .300 and playing a stellar first base.
