Last season, KJ Mallo led the Oak Lawn Community High School team in several categories on the mound. This season he looks to do more of the same. His first accomplishment as a senior leader was to lead the Spartans fundraising effort for the upcoming spring break trip to play in Alabama.
Mallo is a senior pitcher/outfielder. Last season, he led the team with five wins on the mound. He also was the leader in strikeouts and in earned run average. Mallo posted an ERA of 2.09.
“This past offseason, KJ stepped into a leadership role and spearheaded the fundraising effort for the 2023 team to travel to Alabama for spring break,” head coach Bill Gerny said.
The Spartans have started the season 2-2 after beating Crete-Monee 8-3 on Wednesday. They board the buses for Alabama next week. It is the first time Oak Lawn has travelled out of state to play games over break.
