Mallo KJEach week the Athletic Department selects two Spartan Athletes for Spotlight of the Week. The recipients for the week of September 28 are sophomore boys golfer Kevin Mallo (KJ) and senior girls golfer Alexia Stang.

Although he is just a sophomore, Mallo is leading the boys golf team with a nine-hole average of 41.3 after having the second-best average as a freshman on varsity last year. He is looking to continue his fine season in upcoming postseason play.

“KJ starts this season as one of the top returning golfers in the South Suburban Conference,” said boys golf head coach Pat Mayer.

In girls golf, Stang and her Spartan teammates are prepping for the Illinois High School Association Regional meet on Oct. 7. Earlier this season she was the low scorer in a match against conference rival Shepard. But she may be better known as an Oak Lawn pioneer of sorts.

“Alexia is one of the top returning golfers for the Spartans,” Mayer said. “She was instrumental in starting the first girls golf team in school history last year.”
