Khater Plays Through Pain To Help Lead Badminton TeamOn Court

Each week the Athletic Department selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of April 1 is senior badminton player Salaam Khater.
Khater, who needs surgery on her knee, has delayed having surgery in order to finish her senior season on the court. She wears a brace on her knee, goes to physical therapy, ices, and plays through the pain. Remarkably, in the midst of all that, she has managed to play at a high level.
She plays at number-1 doubles and at number-5 singles. Last week, she and her partner went 4-1 at number-1 doubles with conference victories over Reavis and Argo, and she earned wins over sectional opponents Hinsdale South and Wheaton-Warrenville South. Khater also went 2-0 at number-5 singles with conference wins over Reavis and Argo.
Other nominees for Spartan Athlete of the Week included Monique Villarreal (Softball), Bryan Green (Baseball), Zach Olejniczak (Boys Track), Victoria Niton (Girls Track), and Ricardo Cortes (Boys Tennis).
