Senior Juan Hernandez has been selected by the University of Illinois at Chicago to be a part of an inaugural program at UIC entitled Call Me MISTER (acronym for Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models). This program is to help bring more men of diversity into elementary education. UIC is one of nine universities to offer this program and they have offered Juan a full tuition scholarship, including housing for four years. Juan will be one of 7 men to be a part of the first cohort at UIC. Juan was selected to be a part of this program based on his outstanding GPA and inspiring personal statement. Juan and his family met with Dean Tatum from the College of Education on Friday, March 16, where Juan was informed of his nomination and scholarship.
