Illini Girls State

Luz Stanislawek, a senior, was nominated to attend Illini Girls State at Eastern Illinois State University.  Luz stayed on the EIU campus from June 17–23, courtesy of the Tinley Park American Legion.

Junior girls from around the state of Illinois are selected for this week long program to provide training for young women in city, county, and state government.  Luz learned the importance of voting, getting involved in her community, flag etiquette, and patriotism.

Guest speakers included Illinois State Treasurer, Mike Frerichs, City of Decatur Mayor, Julie Moore Wolfe, and 2003 Miss America, Erika Harold.

Being selected to attend Illini Girls State is an honor, one that can be added to college applications and resumes.  Scholarships are also available.  If you are a current junior girl, and are interested in attending the 2019 Illini Girls State, see your counselor for details.
