IHSA Speech Regional Champions


This past weekend OLCHS clinched the Championship at the 2019-2020 IHSA Speech Regional competition, advancing all 15 events to Sectionals. Thank you to all the coaches, alumni, parents, and everyone else who helped make this a success.

Regional champions include Alondra Camacho in both Original Oratory and Informative Speaking, Omar Alqazaq in Special Occassion Speaking, and Sofia Serna in Extemporaneous Speaking, as well as the Regional Runner-Up in Impromptu Speaking.  Oak Lawn's Performance in the Round also advances as a Regional Champion.  The PIR cast includes, Marco Hernadez, Jake Majerczyk, Michael Mueller, Saad Mulhem, Layla Nemri, Grace Pagliaro, Tori Prause, Matthew Rios, Shane Rios, Haven Rupsch, Melak Shehadeh,  Lucas Sodardo, Cylia Srmek, Alexia Stang, and Lucas Wessel.

Ella Moore was the Regional Runner-Up in both Humorous Interpretation and Dramatic Interpretation, Grace Sievers was Runner-Up in Oratorical Declamation, Emma O'Malley Galvan was Runner-Up in Original Comedy, and Mary Majcherek was Runner-Up in Radio Speaking.

Also advancing to Sectionals are Tomas and James Walsh, who took 3rd in Humorous Duet Acting, Jada Jackson and Grace Sievers, who took 3rd in Dramatic Duet Acting, and Daniel McLawhorn, who took 3rd in Prose Reading. Jada Jackson also took 4th in Poetry Reading.

This marks the second year in a row that all 15 events advanced to sectionals, but it is the team's first Regional Championship since 2017. The Spartans will be competing at Reavis High School this Saturday, February 15, 2020.
