Each week the Athletic Department selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of February 17 is sophomore boys swimmer and diver Jeremy Gravelle.
While Gravelle may only be a sophomore, he recently showed the skill and heart of a veteran swimmer for Oak Lawn as he dominated the competition at the South Suburban Conference diving meet by beating the closest competitor by 45 to win the event. Then, in his first Illinois High School Association Sectional meet at Fenwick, he took second place in diving, falling just short to a three-time state qualifier.
He broke three of the four available Spartan Diving records, two of which are more than 35 years old. In addition, he swam key legs on two sectional swim relay teams that placed in the top six.
Jeremy knows the definition of hard work and dedication and represents OLCHS with the utmost character,” said head swim coach Ben Reiff. “Not only does he embody what it takes to push himself to an elite level of competition, but he selflessly helps out other divers at competitions and gives good, sound encouraging advice to them to calm them and help them excel too. What a super aspect of Spartan PRIDE and character he exudes.”
