Fudala Stikes Gold For Oak Lawn Girls Swimming

The Oak Lawn Community High School girls swim team is having one fantastic season in 2021. Everyone is aware that the Spartans are setting records, and they just won the South Suburban Conference Red championship.
But what fans may not realize is that one of the superstars in the pool in just a mere freshman. Amelia Fudala has surfaced as one of the top swimmers for head coach Derek Maciaga and the Spartans.
Fudala recently swept gold in her four events at the conference meet. She anchored the freestyle in the 200 Medley Relay, she came in first in the 50-yard and 100-yard Freestyle events, and she finished first in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
“Amelia has made huge contributions to our varsity squad as our freestyle sprinter,” Maciaga said. “Her future on the team is very bright as she is doing all of this as a freshman.”
This past weekend, the Spartans competed in the very competitive Illinois High School Association Sectional meet at Sandburg and took 6th place out of 12 teams, scoring 112 points, the highest point total in recent team history.
