Determined Spartan Doubles Tennis Team Shows True Value of Teamwork

The ability to trust a teammate and count on that person when the pressure mounts is a key to success in sports. For the girls tennis doubles team of Justyna Dzielska and Sandy Berg, that bond between them paid off with a second-place finish at the South Suburban Conference Red meet recently.
“Sandy and Justyna overcame nerves and a partisan crowd at the conference tournament to take home the silver medal,” head coach Dan Doyle said. “The duo was very impressive in their opening round of the tournament by sticking together as a team and having faith in each other.”
The first set went to a tiebreaker, and the crowd at the fence was vocal in support for the opponents. Berg and Dzielska managed to quiet the crowd and their nerves with an impressive tiebreaker victory. Once over the hump, the pair easily won the next set.
On the final day of the tournament, they made it to their final match before succumbing to the eventual conference champion. The pair followed that with another impressive performance at the Illinois High School Association Sectional meet by stretching three-time conference champions from Shepard into their discomfort zone.
“All year long this team has hustled their way into impressive victories,” Doyle said. “They just have no quit in them.”
