After qualifying for the Illinois High School Association Sectional meet in 2020, the Oak Lawn Community High School boys bowling team was feeling good about itself. Now, with five returning bowlers from that team and the addition of three experienced juniors in the mix, those hopes are soaring. The sky is the limit, and competition between teammates for a chance to show off their skills each meet will be fierce.
“This is the deepest team we have had in my seven years in the program, and the bar is set high,” head coach Kevin Walery said. “We will have eight competitive bowlers, but we can only start five, so every bowler will be fighting for a spot in the lineup. It is going to be a different season, but we will make the best of it.”
The returning bowlers are seniors are Mike Jensen, Alex Ibarra, and Nate Strang, junior Steven Hebel, and sophomore Ramiro Garcia. Newcomers to the varsity level are junior Logan Wendt, Tony Estrada, and Domas Rasymas.
Having this much competition each day in practice should prove to make this one exciting season for the Spartans.
