Recently, OLCHS held its fall sports awards banquet to honor and recognize the athletes for their accomplishments in athletics. And it was the Boys and Girls cross country teams that really got the 2018-19 school year off and running by both qualifying for the Illinois High School Association Sectional meets as whole teams. The girls swim and dive coach Forrest Wagner was also recognized as the South Suburban Conference Coach of the Year.
Here’s a look at the individual accomplishments across the board.
Boys Cross Country: Team Most Valuable Player honors with to Jadon Pirkl, while the Sportsmanship Award was given to Michael Majcherek. Both Pirkl and Majcherek were also All-South Suburban Conference Red selections.
Girls Cross Country: Tala Liqyanah earned the team’s MVP Award and Matelda Sweis was the Sportsmanship Award winner.
Football: The team MVP Award went to Nico Uriarte and the Sportsmanship Award was given to Chris Caban. All-conference selections included Uriarte, Nick Puente and Kevin Swatek.
Golf: Robert Metke earned the team’s MVP honor and Kameron Oesterreich was the Sportsmanship Award winner.
Girls Swim and Dive: The Co-MVPs were Elizabeth Featherstone and Lillian Featherstone, while Peggy Fritz was the Sportsmanship Award winner. In diving, Jenna Cipriani was an IHSA state qualifier and earned all-conference honors. Other swimmers to be named all-conference were Zeren Cebi, Maddy Clarke, Elizabeth Featherstone and Lillian Featherstone.
Boys Soccer: The team’s MVP went to Qassim Alshariff, and the Sportsmanship Award went to Michal Landa. All-conference selections included Qassim Alshariff, Piotr Del Real, Alessandro Lopez, and Oskaras Patasius.
Girls Tennis: Chaniece Dobson was the team MVP and Julie Andrist was the Sportsmanship Award winner.
Girls Volleyball: The team MVP was Hannah Martinkus and the Sportsmanship Award was given to Sydney Rozhon. Martinkus was an all-conference selection and Jackie Hannon and Rozhon were honorable mention all-conference.
