Alvarez Attracts Attention, Leads Spartans On Soccer Field

Each week the Athletic Department selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of October 7 is boys soccer player Gustavo Alvarez.
Alvarez had an assist in a 1-0 win over Evergreen Park and a goal in a 1-1 draw against Andrew last week for the boys soccer team. He also scored the team’s only goal in a 4-1 loss to St. Rita. Alvarez is currently tied for the team lead in goals, and he is leading the team in assists for the season.
“He was brilliant in both games, conducting our attack and drawing much attention from our opponents,” said head coach Nate Joiner. “His long passing range is a huge weapon for us, and he was a tough and crafty tackler in all three games.”
Other nominees for Spartan Athlete of the Week included Emma Garrett (Girls Volleyball), Matt Rascop (Football), Sadie Hartmann and Emma McGrath (Girls Cross Country), Lillian Featherstone (Girls Swim), Angel Reyes (Boys Cross Country), and Noor Adi (Girls Tennis).
