Aisling Berry Nabs First Place At State Speech Competition

The speech team left its mark once again at the IHSA State Competition. The team traveled to Peoria on Thursday, February 15 and returned with successful titles. Most notable is Aisling Berry, the 2017-2018 Prose Reading Champion. Aisling placed second at Regionals and third at Sectionals, advancing her to the state series. Aisling is the first person in Oak Lawn Community High School history to win state in Prose Reading. She has been a member of the Oak Lawn Speech Team for her entire high school career and is the program’s president. All of the coaches are extremely proud of her for all her years of dedication.

Other successful moments from the weekend include The Performance in the Round, which placed 6th in the State. Freshman Jesenia Martinez also took 6th place in Humorous Interpretation.
