Mission

Cross Countries is a student-led service group at Oak Lawn Community High School in Oak Lawn, Illinois.  It was established in 2004.  Each member has a strong desire to make the world a better place in ways that go beyond helping their local community.  Our club is one of dedicated students who have decided to change the lives of those in an impoverished nation.  Our organization has raised over $225,000 to help fund mission trips overseas for compassionate students.  All of the money collected has contributed to the construction of rural hospitals in both Kenya and Bolivia.  Cross Countries is attempting to raise $30,000 in order to return to Bolivia and continue our work there.  Our group is doing this because there are many people in Bolivia that are suffering and in need of help.  With your support and prayers, we will continue to make a difference worldwide, helping the less fortunate and contributing to our shared humanity.

History

Cross Countries first came to be in 2004, when a group of students raised $46,000 to travel to Kenya, Africa in 2006.  Since then a number of other groups have set out, this time to a new destination, Bethel Hospital in Bolivia.  This facility will be the only Level I Trauma Center in the rural highlands.  In 2009, the second group laid the foundation for what may have once been a dream: helping to level floors, install a water filtration system and lighting, and clean out a water reservoir.  This cycle of support has continued through 2012, 2015, and 2017.  These four groups have made a huge difference and the hospital now sits nearly 75% complete.  The newest group hopes to live up to these lofty expectations and continue the positive trend established by past students.

Membership

Recruitment is now closed for the 2018-2019 school year.  However, your support of our team is essential to our success.  Please consider reaching out to any of our team members, or Mr. Repa in room 274, to discover how you can help make a difference with us.  Just because you may not be able to travel to Bolivia doesn't mean you can't have a huge impact on Bethel Hospital!
