The Spanish Honor Society (SHS) at Oak Lawn Community High School is inviting the community to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Spanish-speaking world at Sabores Sobre Ruedas, a vibrant student-led cultural festival on Saturday, September 12,from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the student parking lot at Oak Lawn Community High School, 9400 Southwest Highway, Oak Lawn. As the school's official kickoff to Hispanic Heritage Month, the event celebrates culture through food, music, traditions, and communitywhile showcasing the leadership and dedication of Oak Lawn students.

Inspired by the idea that food tells the story of a people, Sabores Sobre Ruedas transforms decorated vehicles into interactive cultural exhibits representing countries and traditions fromacross the Spanish-speaking world and beyond. Guests will experience the diverse flavors of the Spanish-speaking world, live entertainment, educational displays, and opportunities to connect with local vendors and organizations. Community members are also invited to participate by exhibiting a decorated vehicle representing the Spanish-speaking country of theirchoice and sharing its traditions, history, and culture with visitors. "What makes this event especially meaningful is that it gives students the opportunity to proudly share their cultural identity and heritage with the entire community," said SHS Co-President Lineth Vallejo, "At SHS, we believe our diversity is one of our greatest strengths."

Months before the festival begins, members of the Spanish Honor Society are already hard at work recruiting vendors, inviting community participants, coordinating logistics, and planningevery detail of the event.

The collaboration between students, families, local businesses, organizations, and vehicle exhibitors has transformed Sabores Sobre Ruedas into a celebration of culture and community unlike any other. "Sabores Sobre Ruedas is an opportunity for our students to put leadership and service into action," said Spanish Honor Society sponsor Ms. Araceli Torres "Their hard work demonstrates how young people can make a meaningful impact by bringingpeople together through culture, education, and hospitality." SHS Co-President Evangelina Angulo added, "Sabores Sobre Ruedas has opened up the possibility to celebrate who we are as Hispanics in Oak Lawn through a student-led initiative. Through teamwork and creativity,we've created a special tradition that will build meaningful memories and bring our school community closer together."

More than a cultural festival, Sabores Sobre Ruedas embodies the mission of the SpanishHonor Society by promoting scholarship, leadership, service, and an appreciation of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. The event highlights how students can inspire unity by creating meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange and community engagement.
