This week’s word of the week is: Opulent.

Meaning: Possessing or exhibiting great wealth; affluent. Characterized by extravagance or rich abundance; lavish or luxuriant.

“Everything was opulent about her: her house, her clothes, her hair.”

 

If you believe you had perfect attendance for all of 1st semester, please check the bulletin board outside the deans’ office. If your name is on the list, see Mrs. Balthazor in the deans’ office for your rewards!

 

Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen  - Need help deciding on a class for next year?  Try out an elective this week during Spartan Plus by signing up for an Open House course in Arena Scheduling. Filter by the Subject that interests you, and choose a Spartan Plus course that start with the word “OPEN” to choose an Open House elective session. Check your email for more details.

 

 

Club/Team News

 

The Oak Lawn Speech Team was ready to rumble at the Richards Saturday Morning SmackDown tournament this past weekend. The team advanced 11 competitors into final rounds and took 3rd place overall out of 24 teams.

Aisling Berry was the tournament champion in Prose Reading, Nick Soto was the tournament runner-up in Original Comedy, and Jesenia Martinez was runner-up in Humorous Interpretation. Jon McLawhorn and Abby Moore took 4th place in Dramatic Duet Acting, and Moises Bello took 4th place in Original Oratory and 5th in Radio Speaking. Alondra Camacho took 5th place in Oratorical Declamation and Marlene Favila took 5th in Informative Speaking.Abby Moore also took 6th place in Special Occassion Speaking and Cylia Srmek took 6th in Oratorical Declamation. Jon McLawhorn and Hanna Harris were also finalists in Humorous Duet Acting.The team will be competing at a 2-day tournament this Friday and Saturday at Downers Grove South High School. Break a leg, Spartans!

 

Girls’ Badminton. There will be an informational meeting TODAY – right after school in room 212 for any girl interested in trying out for the badminton team this spring.  Schedules, open gyms, and tryouts will be discussed.  If you cannot make it, please talk to Coach Zwirkoski in room 212 to get the information.

 

 

Seniors.  What better way to kick off your last semester snow tubing with all of your friends? If you are interested, permission slips are in the media center and in your email. Permission slips and $40 are due to Ms. Jones Friday, January 19th! Don't wait, spots are limited and you don't want to miss all the fun!
