At approximately 5:30 P.M on Friday, April 21, 1967, a tornado struck the Oak Lawn area. It crushed homes, uprooted trees, and scattered belongings miles around. Whole sections of the community were reduced to mere rubble within minutes. Thirty-three people lost their lives in the storm and over 500 injuries were reported. It was a horrific day unlike any other and one that many Oak Lawn area residents will never forget. This website is not a commemoration of the massive destruction. It is a living history of the rebuilding and rebirth of the area and a celebration of the amazing spirit of its community members to persevere and flourish through the most dire and extreme circumstances. Thank you,
