As the old adage goes there is no substitute for experience.

The mostly senior led Journalism Team took 7th place in a very tight race at the IHSA Journalism State Competition at EIU on Friday, April 28th.  The teams compete in journalistic events such as Yearbook Layout and News Writing against the competitors who earned a spot by placing in the top three at the six Sectionals around the State.

Journalism Coach Mr. DiFilippo remarked, “This really is the best of the best at the State Competition. Our seniors took on this challenge and relished the opportunity to see how they stack up against other programs from around the state.”

The Spartans placed in four out of the six events. Senior Jade Ryerson earned a 2nd Place in State for Headline Writing, Senior Salam Mulhem earned back to back 2nd in State medals for Infographics.  Senior Allison Templin in her third time at the State competition earned a 6th Place for Broadcast News.  Junior Anna Komperda earned a 5th in State for Yearbook Caption Writing.
