Gershon Overcomes Nerves to Lead Spartan Bowlers to State

Each week the Athletic Department and the Spartan Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of February 7 is girls’ bowler Hailey Gershon.

Despite being nervous and getting off to a slow start at the Illinois High School Association Sectional Tournament last weekend, Gershon turned it on and led the team over the next five games with an individual average of 197 pins.

“It was her ‘fire’ that rallied the girls into a deafening thunder of enthusiasm,” said head coach Kelly Rumel. “She played a big part in the team advancing to the State Tournament for the first time in 15 years.”

Gershon threw 28 strikes in the 54 times she approached the lanes giving her a 52-percent strike average. Her strikes became contagious, spurring others to follow.
