This year’s cast of “Dancing with the Spartans” has been determined. After raising nearly $1,000 in the spare change war competition this past week, the following staff members advanced to the show: Derek Sefcik, TJ Zuzga, Joseph McCurdy, Karyn Horn, Jen Wargin, and Jeana Naujokas. This year’s cast also includes two senior student dancers: Justin Prince and Val Georgelos.

All dancers will be paired with professional dancers and will perform on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Spartan Gym. Each dancer will perform 2 dance routines and the winner will be determined by a score that is 50% judges’ vote, and 50% audience vote. The audience vote is determined as a cash vote. $1 equals 1 vote; $50 equals 50 votes and so on.

The event mirrors the popular TV show “Dancing with the Stars” down to the final detail and all of the money raised will be donated to the Parent Project for Muscular Dystrophy. PPMD is nationally and internationally recognized as a leader in the Duchenne muscular dystrophy community. Duchenne muscular dystrophy affects the son of one of Oak Lawn’s math teachers, Mrs. Shannon DeMatteo, and it is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in childhood, affecting approximately 1 in every 3,500 live male births (about 20,000 new cases each year). Duchenne results in progressive muscle weakness which leads to serious medical problems, particularly issues relating to the heart and lungs. For more information on PPMD, please visit their website at www.parentprojectmd.org.

If you would like to learn more about the competition or are interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Senior Class Advisory Board Sponsor Eileen Jones at 708/741-5645 or ejones@olchs.org.
